Horse owners and trainers based in the New England now have access to dedicated equine veterinary care. Thunderbolt Equine Vet is a new 100% equine veterinary practice based in Armidale and servicing the New England/Northern tablelands.
Equine veterinarian Calum Paltridge is making the move home to the New England with his wife Emilie Paltridge after several years working throughout Australia in many well known equine practices.
The New England region is home to many top equine competitors, and is growing in popularity, so there is a definite need for a dedicated equine vet in the area.
Calum grew up in the region and attended school in Armidale. His parents live on a property out of Uralla. Throughout his school years Calum competed in campdrafts and other horse competitions throughout the New England and broader region. After finishing school he left for Brisbane to study vet science, and since graduating has worked at several well known equine practices in Queensland and Victoria such Oakey and the University of Melbourne.
Calum’s passion in equine practice lies in performance and race horses, especially the challenge of diagnosing poor performance issues. He also enjoys reproduction, and it is very satisfying to help breeders produce foals that go on to perform at an elite level. Outside of the business Calum has a few stock horses and tries to get to campdrafts whenever time allows.
Emilie was born and raised in France, but after graduating from Ag college in the world famous horse region of Normandy, she moved to Australia to work on a number of top thoroughbred studs in SA and NSW. She obtained her equine veterinary nursing qualifications in Australia and has worked in many very well known equine hospitals in Australia and the UK. Emilie’s passion lies with foals, and she has a very wide range of experience caring for mares and foals. Outside of work Emilie has a keen interest in Icelandic horses, of which there are very few in Australia. She currently owns one mare and is hoping to expand the numbers soon.
Thunderbolt Equine is an equine practice run by horse people- we understand the industry and are closely tied to it ourselves. We have a strong emphasis on helping you to succeed in your chosen discipline, whether that involves diagnosing and treating those niggling lameness issues, complex medical work ups, or breeding your next champion. Quite often a small, seemingly insignificant issue can be the difference between an average performance and making the winners circle. We ask our horses to perform some amazing tasks, and performance limiting injuries or conditions are very common. We aim to provide a top quality service, and as such have invested in state of the art diagnostic equipment- portable digital x-ray, portable ultrasound, endoscopy. We have the experience and the expertise clients expect from their veterinarian to look after all their horse needs.
The practice is based at 178 Andersons Rd, Castle Doyle, only 10 min out of Armidale town centre. We have facilities to keep horses at the practice for treatment or breeding purposes, and provide a high quality ambulatory service. Although the New England is our home base, we are happy to travel almost anywhere if there is sufficient interest.
